Archives For Organization

There are a lot of things that I like about Evernote.  It has become my go to application for organizing at work and at home.  Due to Michael Hyatt and several other blogs, I have found some great uses for Evernote.  There are a couple tips and use cases that I would like to point out here on the blog.

1. Use Less Notebooks and More Tags-
I think the mistake that I made at the beginning of my use of Evernote was that I thought that I needed a notebook for everything. So I had way to many notebooks because a lot of notes would not quite fit in one notebook that I already had.  Now I just have a stack of notebooks for work and 4 notebooks in that stack.  But, I tag things really well.  I will give each note more than 1 tag if I have to to keep track of it.  I have a notebook for everything that I find interesting on the internet.  The notebook is called “Always Learning” and I use it just to store things that I want to read and come back to.  I have tags that will determine the general content in the note, but the Evernote search function will pick up everything else.

2. A Great Place to Store Receipts-
Due to the functionality of the iPhone app, I am able to take a picture of my receipts as soon as I get them and store it straight to Evernote.  The nice thing is, the text recognition of Evernote (when you sync your notes) will pick up the text on the receipt.  I can put the store name in the search box and Evernote will find all the receipts from that store.  Plus, you can email things to Evernote so whenever I buy something online, I can just forward the email to Evernote and there you go.

3. Sticky Note Killer
I used to use a lot of sticky notes at work, needing one every time I needed to remember something.  Now, none of that has to happen.  I can just make a note called To Do List in Evernote and keep a running list of things that I need to do or want to do. I can keep a wish list as well for things that I am interested in buying or looking into buying. I don’t have to remember it or create a sticky note to remember it.

There are many other uses for Evernote.  Check out the link from Hyatt above for some great use cases and things that he does with Evernote.  It will make your life easier and more mobile since you can take Evernote with you all the time.

What about you?  What do you use to make your life more organized and productive?
